Besides a good song, a candidate with real chances to win the Eurovision Song Contest must also have a story built. Jonas Rasmussen, Denmark‘s representative at ESC, brings this year the force, magic and legend of the Vikings on the stage from Lisbon through the song “Higher Ground” and a pacifist message, of human understanding.

Hy! For the beginning tell us what does it mean to you your participation to this year’s Eurovision? / Buna!

Hi! 🙂 It means a lot to me. First of all it’s so humbling to be your nations chosen one in a songcontest so big and loved around the globe, and second of all I’ve been told, that the days at the eurovision site are the most fun and lovely, so I really am looking forward to it. / Buna! 🙂 Inseamna mult pentru mine. In primul rand, este atat de minunat ca natiunea ta sa fie aleasa intr-o competitie muzicala, atat de importanta si iubita in intreaga lume, iar in al doilea rand mi s-a spus ca zilele petrecute in locatia Eurovisionistica sunt cele mai distractive, asa ca astept cu nerabdare acest lucru.

Your song is one of the most well regarded at this year’s Eurovision. Does it give you more confidence in winning this competition?

Actually I have no clue about my chances. Of course I get some very nice messages from people loving the song, but the bookmakers don’t seem to give it much chance, so we’ll just take it as it comes. I love the song and we’re so ready to hopefully do an impact in Lisbon. I definitely believe in this song. Eu iubesc cantecul si suntem foarte pregatiti sa producem un impact in Lisabona. Cred in mod sigur in acest cantec.

Which is the message of your song, “Higher ground”, will it be promoted also as a single?

It’s about stepping back for a while and actually listen to the person, you’re having an argument/feud with. To not be afraid of loosing face, but take the leap and hope for a solution to the fight with words instead of just being stubborn and hold your own. I hope that it will be promoted as a single in the near future.

Which are your most important advantages in face of the others?

I don’t know if it’s an advantage towards winning the competition, but I certainly love the fact that we come with a concept, a visual style fitting the auditive style. And of course I’m proud that it’s a very Nordic sound and style, representing our culture./ Nu stiu daca este un avantaj in ceea ce priveste castigarea competitiei, dar, cu siguranta imi place faptul ca venim cu un concept, un stil vizual care se potriveste cu stilul auditiv.

How will the show look like on Lisbon stage?/ Cum va arata show-ul de pe scena din Lisabona?

We loved what we did in Aalborg for the Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, but we haven’t talked about the Lisbon show yet./ Ne-a placut foarte mult ceea ce am facut in Aalborg pentru Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, dar nu am vorbit inca despre show-ul de la Lisabona.

Which are your future plans, after the moment Lisbon 2018?

I have some different gigs, shows and teaching to do after Lisbon, so let’s see what more happens. I love my job as a performer and singer, so hopefully more of that.

How far did you get to know about Romania by now and what is your opinion about our music, our country and our representatives – The Humans? / Cat de mult cunosti despre Romania si care este parererea ta despre muzica noastra, tara noastra si reprezentantii nostri din acest an – The Humans?

I think it’s VERY good. Strong singer and a great form of the song. And I’ve always loved the cello, so that’s a huge plus for me./ Cred ca The Humans sunt FOARTE buni. O cantareata puternica si o forma artistica impresionanta a cantecului.

I would love to get the chance to meet you and chat with you.
