Hey, guys! First of all let us tell you that is a pleasure to do this interview with you. Second time in Romania, at Arenele Romane, sharing your music and good energy. What surprises should the Romanian audience expect this time from such an unique event? / Buna, baieti!

Well, we’re coming to Romania with a lot of new songs. We’re still going to play the ‘Lost Song’ and many of the old ones that people already know, but there’s new music and that’s good for this band. I think some of the recent songs we’ve recorded are some of our strongest yet. We’re excited about that, and we’re going to bring the festival to that beautiful venue. / Venim in Romania cu multe melodii noi.

You have passed through a long history with your band. Which can you tell by far that never to forget moments? / Ati parcurs o lunga istorie a trupei.

There are a few moments I’ll never forget. Playing our first show in an underground basement and realising that there was something special happening. It must have only been 50 people, but it was magic. Playing to 100,000 people in Montreal, that was amazing – Just a sea of faces on the street. Playing The Royal Albert Hall in London. That theatre is one of the most beautiful in the world, and seeing it packed full of people and singing the encore with my little brother was a moment I won’t forget. And of course, playing Romania for the first time, and realising that a song (The Lost Song) that wasn’t even a single had become a hit amongst the crowd.

You have changed together with the musical industry. In a fast moving industry nowadays, what is the secret of remaining an always on the wave artist? How do you perceive the music industry now compared to how it was when you formed and released the band? / V-ati schimbat o data cu industria muzicala. Intr-o industrie in continua miscare rapida in zilele noastre, care este secretul in a ramane un artist mereu pe val? Cum percepeti acum industria muzicala in comparatie cu momentul in care fost formata si lansata formatia?

One thing that has always remained constant for us, is that we’re a live band. People got to know by word of mouth from our shows. When we started it was all about cd’s and album released with record companies, and now it’s all about digital presence and social media, but the one thing that remains the same is that people love seeing the real thing live on stage. That’s how we’ve managed to remain current, being a great live band.

Tell us more about your latest album, “Rising with the sun”. Has it had the success you expected? / Spuneti-ne mai multe despre ultimul vostru album, “Rising with the sun”. A avut succesul pe care l-ati asteptat?

Rising with the sun is an old album now! It was a good album for us, it was number 1 in Australia and charted well all over the world, and we toured everywhere with those songs, but now we’ve finished making a new album and we’re currently releasing one song a month until it comes out. I think the new songs are some of the most exciting we’ve ever created.

Is jazz still has its place in the current music industry / Jazz-ul isi are inca locul in industria muzicala

I think improvising still has a place in the current industry. We’re not a ‘jazz’ band, we’re something different, but we can make things up as we go along, and I think that people in the crowd react to that ‘live’ energy. That connection between audience and band on stage will never die.

What has been the main lesson that you feel that you have learnt and can share to the actual generations of artists?

I don’t like giving advice to other musicians, I prefer to listen and learn from them. All I’d say, is that artists should try and be original, do the thing that only they can do.

Looking back now on your entire music career, would you go back and change anything if you had the chance? / Privind inapoi la intreaga voastra cariera muzicala, ati dori sa schimbati ceva dac? ati avea aceasta sansa?

That’s a difficult question. Of course there are regrets. But hindsight is always objective, and life when it’s happening is always subjective. I’d choose subjective life any day of the week in terms of an experience. So no, much as I’d like to, I wouldn’t change a thing. / Asta este o intrebare dificila. Desigur, exista regrete. As alege o viata subiectiva in orice zi a saptamanii, in termeni de experienta. Deci nu, oricat mi-as dori, nu as schimba nimic.

Have you ever felt with all the experiences lived that success always comes with a price and with a huge responsibility?

There is pressure and expectation, yes. That is hard to deal with. But there is also joy and freedom as well. The great thing about music is that when the drummer counts you in – 1, 2, 3, 4 – after that you can lose yourself, and that is a beautiful thing.

How do you see your fans changing from the beginning of your carreer until now?

Our original fans are still there, and many of them have had children, so now it has grown!

Share a message for all your Romanian fans!

You’re a beautiful people to play to. Full of life, sadness, joy and energy. Thank you! Multumim!
